I've written a variety of features for National Parks Magazine. Here are a few.

"The Heroes of Cape Hatteras: Unrecognized for 100 years, the courageous efforts of an African-American lifesaving crew are finally being honored."  January-February 1997

"Island of Hope: More than 12 million immigrants landed at Ellis Island, the first stop in the New World, yet for 45 years the island's south side has been neglected." November-December 1999

Vanishing Night Skies: Light pollution is a growing problem in a number of national parks, according to an NPCA survey. The Park Service could take a number of simple, inexpensive steps to help correct this problem that can both obscure the stars and compromise the educational story presented in many parts." July-August 1999

"Plundering National Treasures: Hard-core and inadvertent looters as well as hobbyists are marring the fabric of America's cultural heritage by stripping parks of irreplaceable artifacts." March-April 1998
